One of my five month old guppy fry has a bent spine. It can swim fine, eats well, is getting color, plays with it's siblings, and is growing at a normal rate. My question is what causes this mutation? She wasn't born with it. I noticed it a while ago. Are some guppies just "special" like that? B)

It may be genetic. A lot of guppies are really really inbred and so they end up a bit deformed, it just may hsow up late in development. It is also possible it is parasites, but I dont know much if anything about that.

And many are caused by hobbiests themselves. They doesn't understand that fish that needs basic, hard water should be get basic/hard water. Keeping them in soft water affect to fish physiology and result is bent fishes..

You didn't mention pH or GH of your tank.

And if you have bent fishes, they never should be used in breeding, especially if you don't know if it is genetic or result of wrong water values..

Not all of them have bent spines, it's just that one.pH and GH are fine. It could have been because the food was too big for them to eat when they were little (she was in my first batch ever of guppies) and I didn't know to crush up the food. I don't think it's parasites because she's not showing any more signs of illness. :D
