Guppy Troubles

Alright, here's the deal. My guppies produce regular batches but they are really small batches (3-9) and I'm wondering why that is. Does it have to do with their size? Will they start producing more when they are at their 2 inch peak? I think it might also have something to do with the amount of fish in the tank. I have been noticing that when there are a lot of fish in one tank they don't reproduce or who knows, maybe the babies are eaten before I even knew they existed. Anyone know why they aren't producing very many?

probably a mixture of both, i have a guppy on her own in a 2 gallon she only has 4/5 but she is quite small, they breed before i realised they could

Yeah, guppies are a mysterious fish. That's why I like them, you never know what your going to get.

Guppies are also known for eating their young. So if you wernt in the room and their in a community tank that may be why. My second to the last batch i only found 4

Yeah but I put a bunch of water westiria to help keep that from happening. Even if they are able to get to a few that's not nearly as many as your supposed to get. I heard of somebody getting up to almost a hundred before.

well my molly hadd 101 before, i counted them aswell how big are they? mine is about an inch and a half but she's not the fattest of girls even when heavily pregnant

Yeah, I've got about 10 females at about 1 1/2" which all live together in a 30 gallon tall.

probably the size then, a few would probably get eaten but not that many

And a hundred and one, that is pretty insane. How many made it to adulthood?

just 1 they were pretty weak with there being so many another got half way there then stopped growing and died

Oh well I guess theres an upside to my guppies not producing so many babies, Although I wouldn't prefer it

yer with fewer fry i have a higher survival rate, but i do seperate them so they don't get eaten

That's always a good idea. I myself do the same thing as soon as I know theirs frys in the community tank. I have about 40 babies in the hatchery tank.

Once i find a fry in my community tank i am usaly fishing around for fry for atleast 3 hours. lol its an intresting job lol.

haha, yeah, it is pretty exciting seeing what you have in your tank that you've never seen before.
