Have transported my fish to a smaller aquarium on a temporary basis as I am moving home - the small tank has been cycled.

The occupants have been together for over a year now i.e. red line torpedo barbs, bolivian rams, Khuli loaches, bristlenoses and guppys in a large 300 litre tank. I have not added any other fish and they all get on perfectly well.

The largest female guppy had a beautiful tail fin and after just a few days in the smaller tank, now it is all but gone? Looks like it has been bitten/ripped - none of the many other guppys has been affected.

This is a mystery as there is nobody chasing anybody apart from the odd Bolivian ram having a little pop at each other, which is completely normal.

Any ideas why this has happened and will it recover its tail fin in time? Will be moving fish back into the larger tank asap.

Thank you.

How small is the smaller tank? it is possible that due to them being more confined to a smaller tank, aggression may come out & has theres nowhere for the fish to hide or get away from each other sounds like the guppy got attacked.

well must have gotten attacked,i have never had this happen to me.but it must have been cause by the red line torpedo barbs or the bolivian rams,i am unsure if the tail will grow back but i personally have seen some big transformations i had a female guppy get sliced up and stuck behind a decoration and she had scales missing and was bleeding.at one point it even looked like her brains where falling out,her tail was shredded but not gone like yours in your cause.

hope i could be some help
