I just put my pregnant guppy in a 10-gallon aquarium. She should drop in about a week. What's the best temp. for breeding guppys? ight now I have it at about 75 degrees. Any other guppy infor would be helpful.

Also I'm not doing this for getting a certain trait, color, strain, etc. Just for some enjoyment. (Although my male has beautiful neon colors. It goes from blue to yellow to orange!)

awesome colour to your male, any pics of him
how long have you had guppies then it would be easier to reply to your question, is this your first time with gups?

I'll try to get some pics up soon. This is my first time with Guppies although I have researched them a lot. I've only had the guppies for about 3 days but I knew when I got them the female was pregnant so I asked the guy about her and he said she'd drop in about a week. Just so you know my tank is cycled and I do know that having one female is bad so I'm going to get more soon. They said all of the vibrant colored females were gone and would have more soon. (Their females are almost as amazing as the males)

I keep my guppies at 75F and have no problems.
And the colur sound loverly, be pleased to see the photo's

Okay, thanks. trying to get some pics but it's hard because as soon as I transfered the mother he is constantly swimming around! I hopeyou'll like him when I get pics up but I don't know what your standards are. The blue isn't really bright neon colored more mixed in with black but not dull. Is there anything else I should know?

nice to hear that you have done research, not like me , cant resist an impulse buy.

temp perfect......

when you notice that she is starting to spend a lot of time sat on the bottom then she is almost ready to drop a fry
when she does this try and reduce the amount of light you allow in the tank by simply reducing the period of time that you keep your light on, this will settle her down to drop her fry and your fry will have more chance to hide.......and survive

Right now she is doing the exact opposite-she's staying all the way up behind the outflow of the filter. She comes up for food and scavenges the ground but always goes back up. I'm afraid she aborted her fry in the main tank for some reason because she isn't even really fat. All that kinda hints to pregnancy is her gravid spot but I don't doubt what theguy told me at my lfs.

hello again

when people first start with guppies its common that they get confused with what is the sign of pregnancy
the gravid spot is there to really sex the fish as 99.9% of females have the gravid spot unless they are of a dark colour which is possible
it could be the case that when you were looking for a female at your LFS the guy there used a crafty way to sell you a fish by telling you she was pregnant, this to the inexperinced guppy owners is a hugh temptation as you think your getting more for the price of one.

it could be that she has had her fry and they are hiding well, they are so tiny when born and in a heavly planted tank can be hard to see, i really dont think that she has aborted them, if anything has happened to them then look forward to some more they will come sooner or later.

either way she is doing fine by the filter, shes just hiding from the male and giving herself a break from mating as male guppies dont know what "no thankyou not today ive got a headache" means

I know the gravid spot doesn't always mean pregnancy as I've had livebearers for a while. She's actually in a separate 10 gallon tank right now that I use for birthing and fry. If it turnes out she's not pregnant and out of sperm I'll put the male in the tank for breeding then put him back in the main.

Here aresome pics of the male for everyone!

The color didn't come out exactly how it is because I had my flash on.

Yep! He's just great! That's why I'm trying to breed my guppies, to get his color.

thats a stunning fish you got there....

Good luck with him.

i have 5 ladies which cept getting big then small and i could never see fry. i kept the tank at 75. i ran into a guy at a local fish shop who breeds fish for show. and explained my problem. he suggested raising the temp to 80 for a time. it worked now i cant shut them off
