well i bought two guppy one male and one female. i put them in with my platy. seeing how everywhere i looked said that they would get along. so i put them in there and them not even like a week later i noticed someone had taken a chunk out of my male guppys tail fin. so i looked in on him more and more for a little while. i thought it was one of my platy but come to find out its the female guppy. why is she doing this is it normal? and what should i do so that she stops?

with it just being the 2 of the guppies he will be trying to mate with her all the time, some females hide, some fight back so shes prob doing this , you need to get another 2 females or get rid of her and have a few more males instead, bare in mind that if you get more females you'll have loads of babies very soon

ok so today i went and got two more female guppy and one more male. and now all my fish in the tank seem to be sooooo happy. the three new fish have made all my others more active and more well lively! thanks for the suggestion!

The ratio for female to male would be 3 to 1. sometimes 2 to 1 is ok as long as you have enough hiding places for the females.
