I have a young male guppy that I recently moved from the fry tank into the tank with the big guys. The little boy is about a month and a half old and is attempting breeding with everything in site (male guppies included).

In addition to the male guppies, the little guy tries to breed with my balloon molly and my two female platy fish. My question is . . . will he be successful in his attempts to breed with the molly and platy (I KNOW he won't be sucessful with the males ;) )?

I ask because I I don't want poor deformed/mutated fry in my tank so if he has a chance of being sucessful, I want to remove him from the tank and keep him only with guppies. :good:

Its is impossible to have a guppy and platy breed, just cant happen. guppy and molly though IS possible, but it NEVER has happened yet and can probably only be done in a lab. hope that helped!

It hasn't stopped the little guy from trying though!

Well the little guy is trying, but I'm glad to know I won't be having some poor deformed fry in my tank. :good:

Guppy Mommy. I think you get knifefish and varites from mixing mollies with guppies, But also I think you could get guppy tailed mollies[which in fact are real fish that have a mollies body, a gupppies fins except for the annal fins which are like an angelfishs]. I will try to send you a picture of what they look like tomorrow. My dad has got a male mexican siver sailfin molly that a while ago tried to breed with our female guppy, because everytime he saw her, he would leave the short finned black molly[who is now dead], flare up his fins including his sail, would also brighten his colour and would also magicaly make more colours appear and would do his dance around the female guppy in cicles for a long time.

If they did in fact breed, which is extremely rare and the chances of it happening are so slim, the fry would most likely not last long. They would be weak, maybe not deformed, but I would not say the chances of them surviving long are great.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it. The Guppy will try to mate with the Molly, but I doubt any fry will come out of it. :)
