I have a female guppy in a 10 gallon with my male Betta, they've been in there for months with no problems. Today I looked in the tank and there were 4 guppy fry! :hyper:

I put mom and babies in a breeding net in case she's still giving birth and I don't want mr. betta to eat them. Was this a good move? How do I know when she's done giving birth? I have another tank that I could move mom/fry into, but is it too soon to move the babies? These are my first fry ever so I'm pretty excited  and I want to do whats best to help them grow up well. I have Hikari First Bites that I got from a friend a while back and I put a pinch of that in. Will this suffice? I don't have any live foods now, but I could hatch some brine shrimp in the next couple days. Any help is fantastic!
Thanks in advance!

Congrats!!! :good:

As for the breeders net is it the plastic kind or the netting kind? The one with the net, she might want to eat her babies.

The move you did could have made her abort the rest of her birth if there was anymore.

Moving them to the separate tank with no gravel is good and its not to early, but don't take them out of the water. Put them something like an old sour cream container or something. Also make sure you have a heater in there and the tank is cycled and won't have any spikes. Otherwise leaving them in the breeding net without their mom will be fine.

The first bite is fine and remember to feed them 3-6 times a day in small amounts. If you run out of that stuff you can always crush up some fish flakes up.

Thanks!

Its one of the net kind, not plastic. Yes the other tank is completely cycled and has no gravel. I'll move them there tomorrow afternoon. Right now they are resting with lights off. :)

Good Luck!! :D

ALso remember to suck up all the food waste (when you move them to there new tank) every day with a 15-50% water change.
