I have (had) 4 guppies, 2 female and 2 male. Had them for 6 days now. I woke this morning to find one of my male guppies dead and the other is not eating. Both my females are pregnant and I noticed yesterday the largest female has become very aggressive and nipping the fins of the male that I found dead today.
Is she responsible for his death? Is her aggression a sign she's going to give birth soon? Why is the remaining male not eating?
I'm a first time guppy owner and need help? Any information and/or advice is appreciated.

I have a 30 gal tank, with now just 3 guppies. My PH is 7.4, no ammonia and no nitrite, temp stable at 78F.

Thanks!

I had a situation once where I got some guppies and the two males never really adjusted and I cam to find out that my awesome LFS sold me guppies with Tuberculosis ruining everything I had, I doubt you also were sold TB infected fish, but it IS possible the males were ill and the move to your aquarium put them over the edge, unfortunately I'm not sure about the female guppies behavior, perhaps try feeding them more or one additional time each day and see if that helps?

Your Male Guppy could of died from the other male killing him. You should always take procaution when housing more than one male guppy in a tank. Both males could keep on fighting with each other until ones dead. Therefor the surviving male could be under stress due from the aggretion between the two males. This has happen to me before and I healed the wounded male guppie then gave one of them away. So next time you buy guppy buy 1 male and a few females(3 or so). Sometimes the female may nip or bully other fishes because they are hitting her during pregnancy. Sometimes that single male guppy left can be chasing that single female. So the solution is to have a bigger female to male ratio. Lets say 3 females and one male. Like that the male guppy has more than one female and he will be pleased and will bother them less. Your tank conditions look ok.

Thanks for the info/advice. My remaining male guppy is still alive but still not eating....so I just don't know?
I've added another feeding into the day to make sure all get some and even tried a different type of food, but he just want eat. He swims around very little, just mostly hangs out in one spot of the tank all day.
We don't have many LFS in our area and when I found the one I went to I really checked into them and thought they would be a good choice, but now I'm not so sure.

My females seem to be fine, for now. The one that was being aggressive has seemed to calm down now and not picking on the others. So I guess we'll just wait and see.

You are really only supposed to have trios, which is 2 females to one male, which i know is hard becuase that i what i had and then one female died after giving birth and of course the fish she gave birth to was a male so know i have 2 males and one femle and know my current female gave birth and now i have another male and then i have 6-7 babies that are just now starting to get color! I will keep you guys updated but maybe the female was getting mad at the male for picking on her and then that caused some fighting although i have not known guppies for fighting and i have had them for a while now, but you never know, fish are like computers, they have a mind of thier own sometimes because i can notice personality changes in my fish each day!
please keep us updated and sorry for the long post

Well I lost my other male last night. I believe my wonderful LFS sold me sick males.
My females are doing great, but still no babies yet. I've found another LFS that has been in business
over 20 years and my mother-in-law has bought fish from them and has had no problems, so guess I'll be going there soon. Funny she didn't share this information sooner with me. I plan on getting another male and one more female, then I'll have a total of 3 females to one male. Should I wait until the two females I have give birth before I purchase the others or does it really matter?

Thanks for all the help!
