Hello, I have a small 6.5 gallon tank and introduced some guppies nearly 2 weeks ago. In the last 2 days one of my female guppies has gone a bit strange. She seems to be swimming rather aimlessly and sometimes v quickly. Most of the day she is swimming against the flow of the filter and it's a bit worrying.

This is the results of a water test. PH is 7.4
Ammonia 0.2ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 40ppm

help! Is this normal behaviour?

You have an ammonia readings there, was the tank cycled when you added the fish, how many guppys do you have in the tank, is she pregnant, any signs of desease like fungus, spots, stuck out scales, what does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet, any signs of finrot on the fish.

Hi,
yes the tank was cycled when the fish were added. I have 4 guppies. The fish's waste is a yellow/brown colour, not as dark as the other 3 guppies.
There doesn't seem to be any spots or problems with the fins.
:/

She's not gasping at the top of the tank, and is she heavily pregnant.

Hi,
No she's not gasping and not pregnant. On closer inspection she seems to have slight white on just the tips of her tail.

the problem is your tank is now way overstocked and the new arrivals pushed your filter bio levels over the top. you need a bigger tank.

It is really, and guppys need a fair bit of space to swim, add some salt if you only have guppys in there for the white tail if it's not bad that should clear it up.

add 1 level teaspoon of aquarium tonic salt to get to .1%. 12 hours later add the same again which will give you .2%. hopefully the fish may feel better.
