well i have a guppy..no clue what type or anything..black&whitish one...
she stays in one corner above my filter...i think she's hiding..
because alot of the males have been mostly picking on her.. [2 males]
and not the other females...and there no one can get to her...
but she's always staying there....i'll post some pics below so you can see her and my tank..
but her belly is quite large and she's 99% sure pregnant...
so i was wondering if maybe she was pregnant but aborted her pregnancy because 2 males started harassing her..
???
she just came out of the corner like she does every so often...but i'd say in about 5 minutes she'll go back...
but ya..any help is wonderfully appreciatedd!!!!

it's 10 gallon tank...8 guppies [HAPPY/overstocked kinda...but they're happy.]

Okay, the way you can tell if a Guppy is pregnant or not is by the gravid spot. The Gravid spot is a dark area (generally fairly large) under the anal fin. Of course she will look extremely bloated as well.

Also another question is how many males to females do you have within the tank? The general rule is that you should have 1 male to every 3 females, if you don't the males will run the females around the tank virtually till they die. So say you have the same amount of males to females... That's going to be bad.

It could also be that she is pregnant and looking for a place to rest. In that case (if she also has a large gravid spot, try searching for a picture of it, or check under the livebearer section) if you have an extra tank that isnt being used, put the males or at least some in their so she isn't under as much stress.

If you could get a clear shot of her side we would be able to tell if she is pregnant or just plain being bullied.

Hope you get lots of happy and healthy fry though! :good:

it ry to take good pictures...but they don't usually turn out welll...
and i already know the basics..because i've had some fry before..
there's 5 guppies that don't do anything at all besides swim and eat..i think they're males..
but they don't go anywhere near the females..so they don't matter much at all..
then there's 2 definet females
and 2 guppies that are males that harasse the two females...
[i know 9 is overstocked...but the only way to get other guppies/other females is if they die..and i don't wanna be a murderer]
and none of my friends have fish..so i'm stuck with what i have...unless if i use a vase to put 2 males in....
because i have this HUGE vase...i'd say about 4-6 gallons...and if i did water changes everyother day with that..
then that could work?
because i cannot afford another tank/also has no more space..
but i could use the vase that is HUGE.
and i have a few more picture that might work...
none of them are very clear...they just don't seem to ever by clear =[
but i tried anyways...

Well not to be offensive in any manner, but if you cannot distinguish between a male and female in the livebearer world, you do not know the basics. I am not calling you a newbie in the fish world (unless you claim to be) so please do not take any offense, I am just trying to help you.

Well for male guppies, their color is generally really vibrant. They also tend to have skinnier bodies as well. Where the anal fin is, the male will have what is called a Gonopodium. The Gonopodium is a long narrower anal fin. And of course a female guppy has a more fanned out anal fin.

Check out the Fish Index for detailed pictures: Click Here

Of course if you happen to discover you have too many males to females, turn them back into your fish store for credit, if you have the option. If not, set them up for adoption on Fish Forums.net! Because if you feel you're over stocked now, 30 fry isn't going to help.

Oh yes one more thing, if you decide to use the vase make sure that you have at least a sponge filter and heater. Or go to your local dollar store or grocery store and grab a Tupper wear container large enough to house them temporarily. And make sure to use some of your tank water from the 10g to start it off!

i do know the difference between a male and a female.
i've had fish since i was 6yearsold...
well up to the age of 10 i didn't really look after them..
but after that i found out a lot of stuff...
but there's just one retarded guppy LOL.
but it's a male! haha...just inherited a females body-->transexuel! lol.
oh ahha i guess i see where you thought i didn't know whether they're females/males
well i just get carried away and stuff so i didn't read what i wrote
but ya i do have 7 males vs. 2 females..
5 males do NOTHING. with the females so they don't matter
it's just the two others..
so i was thinking get a vase, and put in 3 or 4 males or just the 2 retards that harasse them in there
and get 2 more females to even it out.
and they don't accept exchanges or anything unless if they die...but for the seconde death of their fish..
you need to give a water sample and everything for it..lol which i don't feel like doing for them.

The gravid spot IME can sometimes be a unreliable indicator of pregnancy. All female guppies have some sort of gravid spot, even from 3 weeks old fry, but it grows in pregnancy- still, I have guppies that are showing a larger gravid spot when not pregnant than certain other females I've had just before they dropped their fry. Size and shape are often more useful indicators. But judging from her behaviour, it sounds as if she could well be about to either drop her fry or abort. Getting stressed out at this time is going to be very bad for her as Sandman says. I think you should approach the shop and ask if they would not be able to take some excess guppies for nothing. That way you could either get rid of the females and have an all-male tank (possibly the best option) or get rid of excess males and then spend a small amount of money on upping the number of females. True, you will lose a small amount of money, but surely that is better than letting your fish die from stress? Think about it as medication you are buying. However, do not move the female now she is pregnant. Try a tank divider instead.
I don't see why you do not want to give the lfs a water sample- surely it is worth your while to know that your water stats are good? Better still would be to buy your own test kit, but I appreciate that money may be tight.
There is absolutely no point in calling your fish retards because they behave in the normal way that male livebearers are supposed to behave. It is up to us as fishkeeper to know about what constitutes normal behaviour and plan our tanks accordingly. I think you shuld have a word with the lfs. And if that fails, as Sandman also pointed out you can advertise your fish in the buy and sell forum.
I don't think the vase idea is going to work: IME guppies react quickly to a shortage of oxygen. The reason bettas can cope in a vase is that they can breathe air, guppies do not have a labyrinth organ to do this with. Of course if you were able to add a filter it would be a different matter. But it would only work as a short term emergency measure anyway, and you can't expect that your male will change- he is the one that is acting normal.
