I have a female guppy which gave birth to some fry nearly a month ago. Since she gave birth she has 3 red tiny prick type thing hanging out of her rear end. They stick out about 1/2mm. I`ve got no idea as to what this might be. She is due again inbout a weeks time from now (maybe 2). I cant get a pic of them as my camera isn`t the best plus the fact the pricks or what ever are tiny.
Any ideas as to what they may be?

Any and all advice appreciated.

Cheers, Min.

Sounds more like Cammalanus worms; they're quite common in guppies.

You'll probably need to speak to a vet, especially if you're in the UK; you need either Levamisole or Panacur I believe.

I don`t know if they are worms, it has been their since her last batch of fry. Hasn`t gotten worse or better. She might of had this before she had her fry just I didn`t notice them.

Edit: I`m from Australia.

I can't think of anything else it could be, other than worms.

You are right. Callamanus Worms. I did a search online and thats what they look like. How do I go about treating this?

What you need is levamisole hydorchloride (brand name Levamisole, in the UK at least). You may be able to buy it online, if not you'll need a vet to prescribe it for you.

I know its for birds but I have read online that some people have had sucsess with bird treatments. As well as pig and what not.
I need to know asap as I`ll be going there very shortly.

Thanks, Min.

Levamisole is a pretty good general anthelmintic (worm killing substance) that is well tolerated by fish. The dosage is 2ppm (or 2mg/l, it's the same concentration) for 24 hours.

I ended up getting Worm-Enda (Poultry Wormer). It has Levamisole Hydrochloride.
I`m just not sure how much to dose. My tank is at 147lt.
On the bottle it says:
Amount of water to be added mL
100
200
400
600
800

Dose mL (bottle dispenses 16 drops/mL)
8
16
32
48
64

I`ve got no idea and I don`t want to kill my fish. Can someone please help.

Thanks, Min.

Somwhere on the bottle it'll say what concentration the levamisole is.
