I have a female guppy that was quite pregnant when I got her on April 28, and she still is! She's huge as she could possibly be, and her gravid spot has been nice and black for almost 4 weeks. She keeps hiding among the plants except when it's time to eat, which for her lately is every other 5 minutes. (She's constantly grazing the floor trying to pick up little tidbits.) I just wonder how long can she be pregnant? Right now I'm treating her and the others for ick. This is the 3rd day of treatment (the last day according to the instructions before I do a 25% change and start it over again). She still has a few specks on her, so I don't know if that's what is causing her to hold them. I hope I don't stress her even more by medicating her. I'd hate to see her get hurt from holding the fry too long.
What do you think? :dunno:

EDIT: Please go down to last posting. Thanks!

I have no idea what's going on but my guppy is doing the same. I have had her for 5 weeks on friday and she was pregnant when I bought her. The only thing I can assume is that she gave birth already and they got eaten. Having said that she never got any thinner and never lost her gravid spot so I just don't know?!

Sometimes Guppies can hold on to the fry if they feel the conditions are not right. Perhaps the ich and the med is stressing her out.

What are the water stats?

Another possibility is she is going to have a LARGE batch of fry, so it's taking longer. I've had Guppies pregnant for 6 weeks or so, so I wouldn't worry too much, yet.

I'm betting she is stressed from the ich and meds, though.

my molly held her fry for like... 2 months once.. kinda weird and when i did have a guppy she did the same... maybe it was because i was watching

The stats are pretty good... amm 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0 (it is heavily planted), temp 80 (bc of neds, normally it's 76), ph 6.8.
Hopefully she'll get through the ick ok. Out of all the fish, she's the only one with it still visible on her. I'm thinking of quarantining her in the 1 1/2 gal pitcher I have, but don't know if that'd make it worse?

Same happened to me - and now I'm the proud mother of 21 fry! Keep watching...or rather, stop watching, maybe they'll come quicker! :D

Well, it's happening! This morning I saw 1 fry in the tank, so I netted the mom out and put her in the not-quite 2-gal hospital tank. She's since had 4 more (at least that weren't eaten). I think I may move her back to the big tank now though. She's still pretty big, so she may have more, but I'm afraid she'll eat the fry if I don't. What do you think?
