how long does a guppy give birth. I just saw fry in the breeding net and I wanted to know when to move her. I know there's about 12 hours when the mommy won't eat the fry and I want to save as many as I can.

I bought the guppy today and this is my first fry (I'm not sure my molly is pregnant). Nice Chirtmas present gotten on a whim! :D

10g tank:
male fancy tail red blonde guppy
female guppy
gold sailfin molly
dalmation molly
black molly
plecostmus
...and new fry

Plecostomus get to over a foot in length. I think I told you that before...

I don't think that twelve hour thing is true. My female once dropped an entire batch and turned around and ate half her fry as they popped out of her. :dunno:

With enough stress, she'll eat them. Keep a close watch, since she is probably very stressed out.

The dropping can take from a few hours to a few days (not the entire time period).

Right now the pleco is barely two inches, I'll remove him when he grows bigger.

I eventually moved the guppy momma from the net. It doesn't look like she had any more and my community tank has cover(It was a stressful day for her). Still two is better than none and great for my first. I expect the guppy factory to produce many in a month :D Thanks, the fry look nice and healthy.

Glad to hear it.

If you want to have better luck and worry less about the fry being eaten, invest in a five-galon breeding/ growout tank. :D
