Hi folks,

I'm in a bit of a tiz at the moment. One of my guppies has just given birth... well, she gave birth about three days ago.... and has had a little pink thing hanging from her passage since... and today she gave birth to another baby...

i haven't experienced this with any other guppies so far.. they tend to give birth and go on their way, without bits hanging from them for days on end... i've noticed her poop also comes out from this little dangly pink bit...

should i be worried? and is there anything i can do to help? unfortunately my camera wont take decent enough photos for you to get the idea...

thanks!

belinda

Does it look like her insides or a parasite like a worm the pink thing.
Do you feed any pink foods.

no, i don't feed her any pink foods... and it does look like her insides, because now her poop comes out of the pink bit...

i've just had a look around on the forums here and it may seem like a prolapsed uterus

it doesn't seem to be bothering her, and she's still eating as normal, so i'm not sure what i should do

does sound like a prolapse of the uterus to me, unfortunately unless you are skilled in making anestetic then their is not much you can do

anastetic ingredients some can be got hole of easily and others not depending on the anestetic,

with the fish if it is awake would make the job very hard to do and very stressful also which would cause all sorts of trouble in the tank, ie ich etc and a very sick fish :(

their is a product that can be brought for koi's to anestatise them but i cant remember what it is called i will ask my aquaintance who is a koi doctor and let you know as he also sells the product,

when guppies get stressed also they have the ability to hold the babies inside them for a long period of time, it could have been with others trying to grap the fry that she tried to keep hold and strained when she felt more comfortable to give birth, and that maybe what caused it....they do also have the ability to abort the fry by absorbing them back into the body, so hopefully she will reabsorb them and it may go back on herself

good luck :)
