you can seriously stunt their growth even if they are there for a short period of time..and the fact is they will need new homes before they are big enough to give away to your friends and what not so it would be a very very good idea to get them a bigger tank...i have a 2.5 gallon which is currently unused because i would rather keep my fry in the larger tank even though it will become quite overstocked when they begin to get a little bigger...thats when i will invest in a 10 gallon growout tank, which really isn't that expensive and is really worth it
i'm not selling them to my friends  i'm keeping every single last one of them :D and i dont need to be told how to look after my fish thank-you very much :p .i didnt ask u weither it was bigg enough  did i so stop telling me that its not big enough my fish are very happy :D because they was just in a little lunch box before :( i can c the little smiles on there faces. :fish:  :fish:
my fish r in very good care urs might have a bigger tank than mine but i look after them in the most possible ways i can so :p .
owww yeah and i dont care weither u would rather keep ur fry in a bigger tank because i didnt ask u if i did ask u then that would of been alright but i didnt ask u.

isn't it sooo anoying when people tell u how to look after ur fish.
not if there helping of coarse :D but this is going no where its not helping me is it.
i'm pretty sure that this tank is big enough anyway it looks quite big to me and abstract u said that i cant keep them in that tank when they get bigger i'm not stupid u no i have a tank ready for them when they r bigger it is a 100 gallon one it might even be a 120 gallon i cant remember and i have 25 fry at the moment
and they r all going in that and dont tell me that its not big enough for all of them because it is.my LFS has fully grown guppies in about a 7-20 gallon tank and they have about 20-30 guppies in there and ur telling me mine is too small compared to how many they have in one tank at a time my tank is massive.

Mariah: i thought i answered your post but it may have been another post where i said that the black things could be aborted babies for one reason or another (i might have said that in someone elses post i dont remember) - keep an eye on her and see if she shows any signs of discomfort of if her poop looks abnormal - it may be a sign of internal disease or something of that sort..

Paige: you do not take advice very well - you assume it is all criticism and get defensive in an instant  - i know you're young so i'll let it slide....

my LFS has fully grown guppies in about a 7-20 gallon tank and they have about 20-30 guppies in there and ur telling me mine is too small compared to how many they have in one tank at a time my tank is massive.

my LFS has 50, 4" goldfish in a 20 gallon tank but i would never do it....obviously fish store tanks are normally overstocked, so how could you possibly compare a healthy, balanced tank to THAT???

also, i never said anything about SELLING the fry to your friends, i simply repeated the statement you made a few days ago that when the fry are big enough or there are too many of them you are going to GIVE them to your friends - you said it, not me...but now i guess you magically came up with a 100+ gallon tank for them, ahah

enough my fish are very happy  because they was just in a little lunch box before  i can c the little smiles on there faces.

you should come over to my place sometime and be my fishies psychiatrist - i would like to know how they are feeling

isn't it sooo anoying when people tell u how to look after ur fish.
not if there helping of coarse  but this is going no where its not helping me is it.

that's what this board is all about - letting people know how to care for fish...and if you think i am not helping you, then you have NO clue and you're obviously just ignorant to the fact that others may know a lil more than you even though your fish are so "happy"

the fact is a 2.5 gallon tank is extremely small, especially if you have a batch of fry in there 1-2 months old - my 1-2 monthers are 1/2 inch already and i couldn't imagine that many fish in a 2.5 gallon tank ever

it is MUCH more annoying when others will not accept the advice of people with a little experience, but have it your way....you can have a 100 gallon tank full of 500 full grown guppies for all i care, but you will regret it undoubtedly

i cant keep them in that tank when they get bigger i'm not stupid u no i have a tank ready for them when they r bigger it is a 100 gallon one it might even be a 120 gallon i cant remember and i have 25 fry at the moment
and they r all going in that and dont tell me that its not big enough for all of them because it is.

no one is calling you stupid, just suggesting that you think ahead for the good of the fish - 25 fry turn into 300 fry within a couple months easily..i don't mean to make you feel like i am criticizing, but i have seen it too many times that people (especially younger people, no offense) do not know what they are getting themselves into and end up with serious problems....

sorry about this complete post hijack, but ORIGINALLY I WAS TALKING TO MARIAH ABOUT WHERE TO KEEP HER FRY and somehow paige turned it into some kind of malicious attempt by me to tell her how to keep her fish lol

sorry :D i guess i was wrong  i thought u was telling me that i was making my fry unhappy :S not giving me advice :D .sorry maria :( i totally forgot about it being your topic.anyway abstract i dont think my fry  r the same size as urs  because no.1 there mum hurried the birth and they was born early and she died 2 days after she had them :rip: and no.2 its half my fault with them being my first lot of fry i didnt no it affected them if u put them in cold water one of my friends keep hers in cold water and they were doing fine :*) .they r about 1cm long :D .And i might get them a bigger tank :) when i get some money i dont have a job because i'm not old enough so i have to wait and wait until i'b got enough money  .

i have a thing with getting myself enemies guess i like a bit of a fight oww sorry anyway mariah and abstract. :flowers:

actually they might not even be 1cm long :S they might only be half a cm  i'll just find a ruler and have a look

i have a thing with getting myself enemies guess i like a bit of a fight oww sorry anyway mariah and abstract.

you didn't make an enemy here, don't worry about it...the smaller size is most likely related to a heated vs. non-heated tank - higher temps = faster metabolic rates, thus faster growth...when you have some spare cash the best investment would be a heater...hope to see some pics when they're full grown both Mariah and Paige!

i tried to get some pics today but all u could c was these little dots everywhere so i zoomed in and then all u could c was a big dot (i think it was his/her belly). how big r ur fry and how old r they just want to c how smaller than usuall mine r.

Well my guppy has died :rip: She didnt look to good last night before I went to bed. I didnt think she would make it through the night.

Abstract - I have no idea if the black things were aborted fry or not. They might of been as I only found 2 fry. Do you think that she died because of giving birth or because of internal parastics? She was the one who had the internal parastics. :(

Paige - You have not made a enemy here either :)

Thanks for helping everyone ;)

it is impossible to tell exactly why she died but my guess would be that the reason she had those fry was due to stress from the internal parasites...she most likely died from disease itself - i'm not sure that females die due to giving birth very often, but i suppose there could be complications with the birth that led to problems...i'm sorry to hear about your loss, but at least something good did come out of it (the fry)...take good care of em and keep a close eye on them to see if they may indicate water/disease issues in the tank itself...

paige: my newborn fry are tiny, tiny.....the oldest batch i have in there now is approximately 6 weeks i want to say and they are approx a half inch (probably pretty close to 1.5 cm - us stupid Americans do not do metric well, but 1 cm = approximately .4 inches (")

i copied this from a webpage, but i am not too sure how accurate it is - hopefully someone else can englighten us....but it looks about right to me.

<<"Please keep in mind that this will vary according to care (especially feeding), and genetics. However, I have included this for general reference. Please note that females may grow much larger than the males.

Male Body length not including tails.

New born: 6 mm
One Week: 7 mm
Two Weeks: 1 cm
One month: 1.5 cm
Two months: 2 cm
Three months: 2.5 cm
Six months: 3 - 3.3 cm
Full grown: 3.5 - 4 cm">>

I was only able to save one fry so I named him or her "lucky" :) But yes I will keep a eye on him and the whole site :)

my first batch of fry  wasnt that big when they was born (there was 12 babies in this batch of fry sadly 5 of them died :rip:) .my second lot were about the size they r supposed to be ( there was only 4 babies in this batch of fry  ).and the third batch of guppy fry  which were born on 22nd March :D wasnt that big either its probaly because the mother (i didnt no she was pregnant despite her masssive bellie so she was in the tank at the time when she had the babies i mean :S ) gave birth to at least 18 fry  i magaged to get 17 out but 2 of them died :rip: a couple of hours later do u think that they might of been smaller because the mum gave birth to alot of fry :dunno: .

i donno...the fry that i am talking about came from a batch of 25-30 and they are approx the size listed..i really think the water temps have a lot to do w/ the size of the fry even when they are born
