:hyper: Hey, Im new to this and its me first posting so be patient if i mess it up lol.
2 weeks ago i was cleaning my tank when seen somethin really small move away near my java moss. turns out it was a fry. seen 3 more along with this, and the following day i moved all adult fish in tank to another spare tank (well its me 3 turtles tank, so they got to spend a few days in the bath lol).
anyway, i ended up with 30 fry, and moved them to a new tank (water was made up of approx 50% from original tank and 30%from turtle tank) before moving the adults back to their tank. I presumed the fry were guppys as the fem guppys looked to be ready to give birth that week, but Ive seen this ovr the last few months and there was never any fry (obviously i hadnt the right accessories in the tank to help the fry live i.e. enough plants etc..)
this week i realised it was actually platy fry that i had, as their markings are like those to the adults platy's, and its me first fry ever so still learning :D 3 of the fry are approx 1.5cm, 25 are about half that size, and 2 seemed to not have grown at all. These 2 look more like they are walking round the bottom of the tank rather than swimming, and seem to have to put alot more effort in getting to the stop than the rest. Ive read that some could be deformed, is that whats happened to these 2???

Also, Ive made a deal with my local pet shop that Id give them 20 fry in exchange for looking after my bearded dragon when i go home for xmas, how long more before do you reckon before the fry show good colourings????

congrats on your fry, give them a few wek before they get there full colour some can take longer depending on the size(weaker fry). give them at least a month before you put them back with other fish otherwise they will just make your fish a very tasty meal.

Hey i actually had to put the 3 larger ones back with the adults this weekend as 5 more fry arrived on friday, and i only have one tank available for the fry. i was worried that the larger ones would eat the new ones. the 3 i put bak wait the adults are doing grand. i was so proud to see one in particular swimming with the adults. i believe now that they are a couple weeks older than the rest of the fry i found them with as they are so much bigger.

what do feed your fry?

I had fry once thay got sucked up the filter never to be seen again.
