I have a 2.5 gallon tank with 1 betta. I was thinking of getting another 2.5 gallon for a guppy. If I get a guppy how many can fit? 1 Male + 1 female? More?
Whats their life span? Are they friendly? Thanks!

in many years keeping guppies i have found them to be social fish, is there any way you could go bigger? you could fit a single guppy in a tank that size. lifespan varies depending on how inbred they are, some only last a year, i have had about 1/2 my own bred live to 6 years before

The thing with guppies is if you get two... you'll end up with, oh, twenty or so in a few months and it will grow exponentially from there. At the very least, even if you let them eat all their offspring, you'll want two females and a male.

If you could do a ten gallon they would be quite happy.

Guppies can get quite big, I have heard of females getting to be 4 or 5 inches in some cases! These fish are peaceful though, and may live to be 4 or 5 years of age. But, it really all depends on how heavily inbred they are. Try to get ahold of some F1s/wild fish, if you can, or make sure the Guppies have some close wild blood in them, this should help insure their strength and longevity.

Could i fit two in a 2.5 gallon? Like a male and a male, or a female + male? Whats better/most recommended? 2.5 is the biggest due to my budget =[

For a 2.5g get a trio, 1 male, 2 females. That is a small tank though. I wouldn't worry about the fry, in that small of a space the parents should eat them.

I don't know why you would want to stunt them... I have heard many stories of guppies passing 4 inches in length...

If tank size is an issue, dont mix male and female. They breed like rabbits, making your tank size issue even worse.

The minimum advised amount of gallons for guppys is a 5gallon, also, they are sociable fish and need to be in at least trio's of their own kind, if males and females are kept together you need at least 2-3females per male. They are also notorious breeders (they are not also know as "millions fish" for nothing).
It would not be fiar to keep guppys in such a small tank due to this, and betta's are not safe tankmates for guppys either way as betta's often mistakes small colourful guppys for rival small male betta's and end up attacking the guppys (this is a very well recorded thing to happen in betta keeping).

If you want a community tank with guppys, you really need to go for something of at least 5-10gallons long with filtration and heating.
