I came back from going to the shops to find a dead guppy stuck in a plant. It was in the area that the filter runs back into the water, so there is a bit of pressure [not alot]. It was upside down and when it took it of I couldn't see it's dorsel fin [maybe it has just folded down]. It was mysterious as I was only out for an hour or so and it seemed fine before. There was 2 male guppys in the tank and the one that died used to want to play with the other but it was more interested in the swordtails.

Water is fine, temp and everything.

Quite new tank.

All my fish are listed below.

Male Red Fire Guppy [fancy]

Any help?

It's not likely the filter killed the fish. Even fry when first born are able to avoid getting sucked in and do okay with the return as well. Assuming your water parameters are okay, it may be one of those mysterious deaths unfortunately. Do you have measures of your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels?

one of my neons died the same way. he was fine an hour or two before i walked upstairs to find him stuck to the filter, still gasping for breath. he made it through the night, but died the next day.

and the same with one of my cory cats. it was fine when i checked on it, but when i came back in an hour later, he was dead.
all my water parameters were where they were suppose to be but -shrugs-

it happens.

You sat it'a a new setup, so how long has it been running?
what size is it as the number of fish looks to be quite a lot for a new tank.

and have you got ammonis, nitrite, and nitrate tests?

These are important factors to telling how healthery the tank is
