I had two guppy’s that suffered and died from some light-brown cartilage-like substance stuck in their mouths. I thought they may have eaten a small nirite snail. I thought maybe they might get it down to consume it. But after the first guppy died I tried desperately to save the other one and tried using tweezers, then a tiny plier, then medical tweezers, but the substance was so slimy and hard-squishy that I couldn’t get it. I’m so distraught about it, that I don’t want to own another guppy, which is ashamed because I LOVE the way they swam around my tank. I ended up euthanizing the last one because it was making me sad to see her struggling to eat food and couldn’t, and I couldn’t save her. And afterwards I pulled out 2 of these cartilage-like pebbles from her mouth. What in the holy-hell could that have been?

I'm sorry about your guppies! Do you have a picture of them with the...thing on their mouths??? Water parametres? Do you think it could have been some sort of parasites, or even some sort of mouth fungus?? Just some stupid ideas... Also, if you're whiling to get more fish, clean the tank REALLY well first. Things like that just happen, please don't give up the hobby!

Sorry to hear about those guppies. Hard to tell from this story what could've caused it. Did you make a picture of it?
