I came back from going to the shops to find a dead guppy stuck in a plant. It was in the area that the filter runs back into the water, so there is a bit of pressure [not alot]. It was upside down and when it took it of I couldn't see it's dorsel fin [maybe it has just folded down]. It was mysterious as I was only out for an hour or so and it seemed fine before.

Any help?

Well what I think may have happened if there are other fish in the tank that they could have bitten him near his tail region and then he died. Thats why the tail was missing, too weak on impact of the filter and completely fell off. But I don't know, lets see what everybody else has to say.

Could be a lot of things, from that description.

Other helpful info that you could supply would include:
  • Water stats
  • Tank mate behaviour
  • Maintenance regime
  • Any unexpected marks/damage
Regards,

Irf.

Thats why the tail was missing.....

Is that what he said? I thought it was that the dorsal fin was not visible....

The water is fine, the tank mates are listed below (minus one guppy!)
It is a fairly new tank and I feed them in the morning and later at night. (Half what anybody would feed them x20

There was no damage, BUT it seemed to always want to play with the other guppy, while it was too interested in the swordtails

Thanks for the replys
