Bit of a weird one this, so thought i'd post to see what people think.

My third tank has been set up for over 3 months now - 130L which was fishless cycled first. I have 3 live plants and am running an external tetratec ex700 filter. Tank inhabitants are:
2 angels
6 zebra danios
6 glowlight tetras
3 bristlenose babies
1 guppy (there were 4 to start off with)

About 3 weeks ago i bought 4 guppies from a new pet shop that has just opened. I decided to get 1 male and 3 females - stupidly enough i was busy chatting to the bloke in the shop rather than ensuring that i wasnt getting any gammy fish. Anyway over the course of the past 3 weeks i have lost 3 guppies, the latest today. They all went very differently:
1) Died within 3 days - gills looked inflammed ever since i had bought it
2) Dies 2 weeks later - looked like very minor pine coning. This one did have part of its tail missing when i bought it
3) Died today - have been hanging at the top of the tank for that past week occasionally, but will still eating. No other symptoms.

Tank stats are:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 40
pH 7.6
Temp: 26

Now this is the only species to be affected, fish are not displaying any obvious symptoms such as flicking or hanging near the surface. In fact i think the water stats must be fine as the angels keep spawning - altho i'm not sure if i have 1 or 2 females as the eggs keep being eaten after 24hrs.

Any ideas?

Red gills if water quality and aeration is good usually points to gill flukes.
If a guppy has finrot you can bet that there something else going off.
If the fish did have gill flukes the tank will need treating.
Gill flukes cause bacterial infections on top.

I dont think it was gill flukes as the rest of the tank is ok and i also phoned the LFS to ask if they had any gill problems in that guppy tank. Bearing in mind the gills were inflamed when i bought it - i think that the stress of moving was too much.

Ok just keep an eye on them.
Good luck.
Guppys are not the hardiest of fish, to be honest there more trouble than there worth.
I love guppys but won't ever be buying anymore from an lfs.
