Recently I have lost a Molly and a Guppy to a phantom illness.
The symptoms are similar to that of Neon Tetra Disease with a difference or two.
It starts with the infected fish pretending to eat and then shortly spitting the eaten food out again. The fish then loses all power to swim and segregates itself from the rest of the tank population. Shortly after that its stomache shrinks and its spine curves as if it were a Siamese Fighting fish with the body straight and the tail tipped down and finally the fish dies. These symptoms can last up to 2 months before the fish :rip: pops it...

Anyone know what this could be????!?????

first start off by checking your water..........

Size of tank in gallons or litries.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

What does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.
Check the anus of the fish to see if it's enlarged or red and inflamed.
Any worms prutruding from the anus.
Sunken in belly.
Being thin or bloated.

Being thin and bent spines can mean old age, fish tb, internal parasites.

Ok well last time I checked the water it seemed fine.
The excrement is Clear like silicon gel with the occasion spot of red. Today I have noticed she has flukes. The other fish had flukes that disappeared after 2 weeks or so. Her belly is starting to sink a little. I did get her when she was quite mature but I have had the fish no more than 3 months. HOWEVER, I was a little busy last month and hadnt done a filter change for a while, when I changed the water the Amonia levels spiked and she got sick soon after that.

Also my tank is about 65 ltrs, I have 4 Sword Tails 1 Molly and about 20-30 Small Guppy fry. No bigger than 3/4 of an inch.

Yeah..
I had a molly that sorta looked like that last week..
Any suggestions?

Then it sounds a great deal like fish tb then i'm afraid. Fish tb breaks down the tissues inside the fishes body, causing the fish to look emaciated and bent- fish tb is incurable and can be quite infectious, so the best way to get rid of it in the tank is to euthanise any fish which display symptoms of such spinal curvature- its very important to ensure that no sick fish in the tank die, as this is the most common way the disease is passed onto other fish.
As a precaution, it may still be worthwhile treating the tank for internal parasites as it quite possible to have two conditions afflicting a tank at the same time  .

:S Oh no!!
I lost the body of one of the infected fish..?!?

:S Well I suppose I'll just have to see how this one pans out :(

Try see if you can find the fishes body in the filter, it may have already completely decomposed, but it worth a shot trying to find and retrieve it (if you do find the fishes body, by now there will probably be little more than the fishes spine and head left of the fish- small fish decompose very quickly in tropical tank water) .
