hi all
i have 5 female guppies that are all as fat as can be with babys i can see ther frys eyes through some of them but they just wont drop them for me, they are in a 3ft tank with lots of plants air stones and filter i baught a new one the other day to turn my 4 in to 5 and as soon as i got her home she droped her babys just wish the others would do what she done. any clue on how much longer i have to wait they are swimming freely in the tank but i want to move them in to a breeding trap while they have them but dont want them to be in them for to long any help would be great thanks

Well, in my experience it can be anything between 3 to 7 weeks. It's not an exact science, but a warmer temperature can speed up the maturation process. I personally prefer to just let nature take its course. You'll be overrun with babies soon enough!

If you can see the whites of the babies eyes then it'll be any day now. I've got one in my tank who's tummy is full of little round white circles and she's been pregnant 6 weeks :p

Way to go on becoming a new guppy parent smallfry. I thought pregnancy was about a month but some of mine sure seem to like to hold onto their babies abit longer than that. I found keeping the water temperature abit warmer makes things much easier for them. If you have lots of live plants and java moss, then the babies can hide in there and you don't need to worry about putting the momma in a breeding trap which sometimes stresses them(or it did some of snowy's). You can then scoop the fry out into a separate container if you wish to do so to keep everyone from being crunch n munch for the bigger fish. That being said, one of my mommas just dropped some fry last night and the little zippers are SO fast I cannot catch them to put them in the fry tank. That's a first time for me. I figure if they are THAT fast then they're on their own! Sure are cuties!

3-7 weeks on average but the best solution is not too bug her too much ...feed variations of food... and they will come out when ready ;)
