Im thinking about setting up a new 36" x 12" x 15" aquarium, in which i am considering breeding guppies, so i have a few questions before i start.
1. What water conditions can a guppy withstand? (such as PH level, etc, etc.)
2. What is the age at which a guppy reaches sexual maturity?
3. How long is pregnancy for a guppy?
4. Can they become pregnant again straight after giving birth?
5. Do guppies generally give birth to both male and female fry, and how do i distinguish between the sexes?
6. What can i feed guppy fry on, and what is the best food for guppies in general?
7. What sort of conditions may i need for guppies, and their young? (such as plants or hiding places)
8. I may also include neon tetra's in my aquarium, would they be suitable with guppies?
9. I am also thinking of getting some form of catfish or similar type (nothing that is too large), to help with any algae problems i may have, could these be suitable with both guppies and tetra's?
10. What temperature is suitable for guppies? would this be any good for the tetra's and catfish?

If anyone can think of anything else that may be usefull please let me know.

thankyou for your help. :kana:

3. guppys are pregnant for about 28 t0 20 day some a little bit shorter or longer

4. yes guppys can become pregnant straight after birth

5. guppys do give birth to male and female and i think ter male get there colour quiker

6. guppy babies will eat crushed flake food

7. it is a good idea to put plants in the tank so that the young can hide and not get eaten

 I have tons of guppies so I'll give you what I know . . .

1. I keep my pH around 7.0
2. My 5 month old female guppy is already pregnant, so I would guess it's around 6 months
3. Guppies are usually pregnant for about a month
4. You can expect fry every month or so
5. On the underside of a guppy, there is a fin that is shaped differently in males and females. In a female, the fin is fan shaped and in the male, it is pointed.
6. I start by feeding my guppy fry a special powder (that I bought at Petco) called "First Bites" Then, I give them crushed flakes and bloodworms.
7. Guppies would eat their own fry, so provide plenty of hiding places for the fry.
8. Suitable tankmates for guppies include: Tetras, Swordtails, Mollies, Platies, Cories, and Ottos.
9. The perfect algae eater fora small tank is an Otto. They love to eat the algae and they don't grow too big. Just be suire to get a few, since they enjoy the company of others.
10. I keep my temperature around 76-78 degrees.

Hope this helps!
