Ok. So ive decided i want to start breeding fish. I figured guppies b.c they are small and easy. I already have some male and female guppies, that are beautiful by the way.

Stuff i have/ Know i need to get:

I have A 29g and 10g and a 5g tanks. for spare.
I have 1 spare heater
I am going to get sponge filters. , except for on the 29g. I was thinking make one tank the main tank, 1 tank a nusery, and i dunno what else.

Questions:
-Tell me anything, and everything you know about Breeding guppies.
-What else do i need?
- Planted, or not? What should i use for substrate.
-Is there a place where i can sell fish?
- how should i make my set up.

Any info is helpful. i know a little about it and have been keeping fish for a long time, never tryed intentional breeding though.

THANKS A BUNCH!!

to breed guppies you just keep the male with some females, they will do the rest. when the female looks like she is ready to give birth, then move her to a BARE bottom fry tank. this should be around 10g with a sponge filter. after she is done giving birth move her back to the main tank and let the fry grow up in there. when they get to 3 weeks old add some cory cats, a small variaty will sute you well. i like panda corys as they are small and calm. they will eat the left over food and make the tank look nicer.

you have a choice of what food to feed, you can feed them crushed, powderd flake from the start, or you can feed them live foods, such as BBS or baby brine shrimp. BBS will enhance their colores and make them grow faster and healther. but i have had many sucefull spawns with just powderd flakes.

there isnt really any places that take guppies, some will take them for free but virtualy none will pay you for them.
if you want to see the fry go not planted. there is no reason for them to need the plants to hide in as they are the only fish in there except for the corys.
if you have any more questions feel free to pm me.

There is no reason you can't use a sponge filter in the 29 gallon tank. Just size it large enough.

Bare bottom tanks are not necessary to birth fry in, but it does make them easier to find. if you are concerned about the mother getting to them before you can get the mother out, you can put marbles into the tank. It provides areas for the fry to hide behind. You can also go with a custom tank separator done horizontally. One thing that works well is cross stitching plastic. You can prop it up with blocks pretty easily.

Planted tanks are something extra to deal with, and I would advise really planting. You can go with Duckweed and Java Moss though. It will help clean up the bioload, and there is no extra care needed with these plants. They're water weeds, literally. They're hard to get out of your tank. You miss a speck of it, and it's back.

As far as eating leftover food, I'd go with Ghost Shrimp. They're cheaper.
