Hey yall,

Ive got a 10 gallon tank im thinking about Guppies and live plants too.

Question is what you good people would recommend as for a number to go in?

How many males vs females?

What would be good to plant aswell?

Remember the 1" per gallon rule of thumb, and add more females than males. Remember, however, that your population will rapidly grow! Be sure to have an outlet for fry.

if you having male and female then 2/3 females and 1 male, or you can go all male and have 5/6, are you planning on adding anything other than guppies

was making it a Guppy tank only. :)

Also one other thing. The ph right out the tap in my home is around 7.0

what would a good ph be for Guppies?

Fish can adjust to the ph, and that's actually an optimal ph measurement for an tank so don;t worry about the ph. :good: Also, I personally never follow the 1" per gallon rule, because if it was a correct rule, than I could put a 10" fish in a 10 gallon tank. Just doesn't seem correct to me, but that's just my 2 cents. Also, don;t forget that guppies breed like mad, so your going to want to have extra tanks to put the fry in, or I guess if there is few places for the fry to hide, than they would all be eaten.

General rule is, the 1" per gallon doesn't apply to fish over 2 - 3 inches.

the reason i only suggested a trio of mixed sex is due to there breeding, but if you have all same sex group you won't have this problem there fore can have more fish to start with
