What are guppies like?

How will 10 guppies get on with the following (In either of the following tanks). Mainly i'm thinking about compatibility. I think they'd be fine in either? Both tanks have adequate space to accomodate and are fully cycled. Tank 1 has gravel, tank 2 as sand.

Tank 1:

1 X Golden Algae Aater
2 X Black Phantom Tetra
9 X Neon/Cardinal Tetra
2 X Blue Gourami
2 X Red Gourami
2 X Red Platy
4 X Panda Cory
3 X Zebra Danio

Tank 2:

2 X Red Rainbow
2 X Blue Rainbow
3 X Clown Loach (Small 2-3")
2 X Clown Loach (Medium 4-6")

Thanks!

I would put them in tank 1, because:

Assuming that you have the room, as you state, they'll be more likely to be left alone in the community tank. Tank 2 seems to have bigger fish in it, and the guppies might become a snack.

Just my .02

would any of the tetras and gouramis not be fin nippers? Just asking cause ive had guppies before who got very fin nipped, and was never quite sure of the culprit!

Yes, they are. However, with the numbers in the tank already, there should n't be an issue. For example, I have 3 tiger barbs and a Black Phantom Tetra in with 4 guppies. And, honestly, the guppies are left alone most of the time. The tiger barbs pick on each other and the tetra. Heck, the even leave the pleco alone, and his fins are the biggest in the tank right now. :)

Provided you put enough fish in the tank to remove the stress of one fish getting picked on you should be fine. It's when number start to drop and fish get bored that problems arise.

i think, we need the exact number of gal/litres the tanks are first :good: i'm sure you are aware that clown loach grow to 12"

Tank 1: 24" X 14" X 15"
Tank 2: 36" X 12" X 15"

The tanks plenty big enough for the clown loaches at the moment, i'll get a bigger tank when they need more room.

I did put the guppies (8 not 10) in tank 1 in the end and they seem happy enough.

I have the same size tank as you with fewer fish.

8 Neon Tetras
2 Guppies
3 Cory Julii
2 Gourami (male & Female)

My tank would certainly be over crowded if I added another 2 Gourami and 6/8 more guppies.

Have you tried this site? It has a vitual tank thing where you can enter tank size, filter system and select all your fish and it tells you whether you are overcrowded or whether you'll have any compatibility problems. :good:
