i have a 100 litre community tank. just want to know, knowing that tiger barbs may be fin nippers can i add some guppies in to the tank. i have 4 tiger barbs. will the tiger barbs fin nip the guppies?

hi
i suspect that the guppies pretty flowing tails would be too much for the tiger barbs to resist!!!!!! personally i wouldnt risk it for the guppies sake.

i keep guppys and tiger barbs together and they stay out of each others way

It's a very risky combination. With the number of Tiger Barbs you have, they will be more likely to pick on the Guppies. In bigger schools, they would probably spread out their aggression on their own more, instead of the Guppies. I personally wouldn't try it with your tank size and school numbers. :)

sometimes if you put a mirror behind your tank the tiger barbs will chase their own reflection and would keep them from nipping on the guppies. my friend did this and her tiger barbs leave all the other fish alone

thanks all for replying. i guess i will just have to set up a new tank. if i want to breed some guppies how big souls the tank be and how many guppies do i have to start of with

At least 10 gallons, and 2-3 females and a male should be fine. They will quickly populate your tank. ;) It might be best to get the fish from different LFS, to prevent a lot of inbreeding.
