Alrighty, so last night I put the little tiger barb that was in the quarantine tank into the main tank. It's miserable in the quarantine b/c we only have 2 barbs right now and the other picks on it ALL the time.
So thinking I was going to relieve some of its stress... into the 28 gallon it went.
Well... everything seemed fine until today. I watched them all for a little bit and noticed that the barb was following one of the guppies. I got a bit concerned but didn't see it doing anything else except for following it.
Well that all changed. A little later on I noticed the little devil becoming quite aggressive with all of the guppies. So I scooped out the little bugger and stuck him back into the quarantine tank.

2 of the guppies (other is sleeping in the vase so couldn't see it)... have these bright white patches on the edge of their fins.

Here is a picture of one of the guppies. It's the best I could take of it. You can still see the white area though on the bottom edge of it's tail fin.

Is this what normally happens with freshly nipped fins?
I don't see anything else wrong with them.. just the white part.

If there not rotting away I would just add some melafix for now.

It's hard to tell if there is any rot since the nipping and the white spots just appeared.
Would melafix harm the beneficial bacteria in the filter?

I've always liked tiger barbs, but found long ago that they were really bad fin nippers of many other types of fish. I'd like to have them but it seems one is limited to those fish that get along with them (and can get away from them!). Having several might keep them occupied with each other, rather than chasing after their tankmates, but then again it might make the problem even worse.
