guppies tails

can anyone please advise me, some of my guppys tails are ripped and chunks out of them, 1 in particular has very little tail left. i have treated them for fin rot, and although they havent got any worse, they havent got any better either. im very concerned!! advise needed, thanks

Is it due to finrot or fin nipping.

What else is in the tank, and what's your guppy male to female ratio?

im not sure at first i thought it was my siamese fighter nipping them, but then i noticed what looked like thread hanging from 1 of the tails, these fish have been like this for a while now, their tails dont seem to get any better.

i have 3 male guppies to 2 females (but i also have babys too, which seem to be all female except 1)
2 mollies
4 danios (which 1 of them also has half a tail)
siamese fighter (male) but he seems peaceful)
1 common plec
1 gibbiceps
2 bala sharks

Can you post size of the tank, water stats in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate,and ph.

its a 30 gallon tank, all the water levels are good, i do a 30% -40% water change very week

Could be the betta, you do no the bala sharks need a 120gal tank.

Also forgot to mention shouldn't keep guppys with betta's as the male will see it as competition causing it to nip at the tail, or even eat or kill him.

i watch the betta all the time as i thought it would be him, but hes very quiet, he keeps himself to himself, he doesnt bother with any of the fish.. thats why i then treated them for fin rot.
i know i will need a bigger tank for the balas, they are fantastic, and i have every intention of getting a bigger tank for them in the future..
the guppies tails dont seem to get better at all, they have been like that for a wee while now, with no repair

If you think it is finrot try a bacteria med on them, but i would isssolate them, as you can get bacterial finrot and also some salt baths should help

i have never used any form of salt in the tank
and as for medicines im very weary i dont like using anything like that, i have used meds like finrot, white spot and velvet, but as im fairly new to fish it worries me to add things to the tank
the fin rot bottle says i can use it again in 7 days... is that not a bacterial meds??? all the rest of the fish are very healthy including the betta

The male guppies are most likely nipping each other. The finnage will growback slowly melafix will help if added shortlyt after the nipping.

Don't add salt to the tank you have a plec i said salt baths which you do in a container.

I'm afraid I have to disagree, Just like any type of fish,
you do get the ones who may nip etc. But on a whole,
most types of bettas are found to be peaceful with other
fish species. As a matter of fact, I would say there is
probably equal evidence of guppies doing the nipping
at bettas.

C'MON THE BETTAS!!!
