heyyy all
i went out to my lfs today and bought 7 female guppies, i checked on the stages of guppy pregnancy and i noticed that a lot of my guppies have a very dark gravid spot. can i put them in breeding traps?
when the fry are released can they stay in the breeding traps as my 2 other tanks are not set up yet and wont be set up for a few weeks
thanks

You do not want to keep them in traps for to long.
It's very stressful on them and can cause them to give birth to early resulting in dead fry :(

You should only trap them when u think their very close.
Or what I did something is catch the babies after their born, and place them in a trap.
How ever you list a lot of fish that will actively eat baby fish :(

Good luck though.

thanks :good:
i will be on guard until the birth :hyper:

Best of luck, they tend to go very shy and hide away when close to giving birth.
and they tend to give birth at night or first thing in the morning.

thanks again, some of them stay in a group but still have quite dark gravid spots, but one of them ocasionally goes down near the bottom but then comes back up her gravid spot is dark. i also have a black tux like female ( same colouration) and i cant see her gravid spot but she looks very widee to me.
im off to my lfs to get another breeding trap as my other one broke :good: :shifty:

I don't go by the gravid spot as it is misleading especially with lighter coulour albino type guppies. Go by the size of the fish as when she is extreamly large and her belly turns slightly square shaped. Then she is very close to giving birth.

thanks
my guppies are a lighter colour but there is one of them with a very dark gravid spot but she is not that big
should i keep her in the trap for a while ?
thanks
