Hi All,

My tank has been doing very well over the last few months and I now have a lovely community tank in my front room......

until recently my guppies were breeding for fun and I was getting some lovely colours in the young .....

Recently I have changed the plants and the ornaments and added some Sailfin Mollies (4.... 2 male and 2 female) one of the males is agressive to the other but seems to leave the Guppies alone......

Now the guppies have nipped fins ...... some of them quite bad and they are not breeding......

Plants in the Tank ...... Java Moss ..... reasonably good cover with Porous Ocean Rock....

Fish

Neon Tetras
Guppies
Sailfin Mollies
Red Tail Shark
Siamese fighter
Zebra loach
Peridontis (spelling?) catfish
Swordtails

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice ................

neons nip long fins of fish. How many males and female guppies do you have?

I'll have to count after the last load of Fry I'm not sure they were in a 3 male to 2 female ratio ..........

I'll check tonight and let you know ......... that's a really good point .....

Well, it icould be either the neons or the Siamese fighter or the zebra loach,

Neons like most other tetras can be fin nippers, especially towards fish with long finnage
Fighters will rarely co-exist peacefully with guppys long term.
All Botia species are inquisitive and can nip at and bother smaller fish especially at night when guppys may be low in the tank

Also i think you mean synodontis catfish, :good:
(peridontis is the name for a type of gum disease. Lol)

Your ratio is wrong for a start m8, you should have 1 male to every 2-3 females..

Thats the chap

Thanks for all the advice !!!!!

Is the ratio really important to sucessful breeding?

Yes too many Males will result in the females being harassed literally to their deaths.
Ideally you should have 3 or more females to satisfy each male,

Hi the ratio is more like 1:1 ....I'll sort it at the weekend ...... Thanks !!!
