Hi guys, just wondering... after i've cycled my tank i'm wondering whats the best to go for, guppies or danios? I'm after hardy fish... simply because I hate loosing fish! And I don't want to loose any... I wan't some fish that are nice, that are easy to look after just to get the ball going.

Any advice + fish name would be good, for hardy fish.

Many thanks :good:

PS, it's a 60ltr hexagon

thats the tank i'm using... if you need that info :)

Danios hands down!

Guppies can be very funny, they much more prefer a mature tank although some people do add them as an early fish but it is not advisable.

Zebra danios are extremely hardy and these would be ideal for a fish in cycle (although a fishless cycle would be even better)

How many danios are best to be kept? ... in my size tank.

Thanks

I'd add a small amount for now to give your tank time to mature enough, probably about 4, you dont want to add too many and then find out you are overstocked and have no room left for any other types of fish.

The general rule is 1" of fish per gallon. Your tank is around 15-18 gallons so about 15-18" worth of ADULT fish so check out google to find out the adult sizes of the fish youre interested in as its very rare they stay the size they are when you buy them.

Once your tank is matured, probably around 6 months or so, if you have had no probs in these 6 months then you can normally stretch the limit to nearer 2" of fish per gallon.

Hope this helps abit and gives you a rough idea. Always research your fish before buying them to find out size, compatibility issues etc.

Thanks fella,

you could have both guppies and danio's just add the danio's first then after a few weeks the guppies
