that shouldn't make too much of a difference.
i was thinking, if one tank is heated, and one is not, the shock could have killed them. but if they are both the same temp, that would not be the case.
though, at the same time, moving them from one tank to another (assuming it was a matter of only a few seconds to move them) should also not have caused them to die because of "stress". i have moved fish multiple times in the same day with no such issues.
this sure is strange imo. especially if you used a liquid test kit and tested the water in the new tank, and everything checked out.
