Many livebearers are overly inbred, making them more fragile than many cichlid. Also, one mistake I often catch myself doing with platys is feeding them the higher pritein diet that I use when breeding angels, since the angels are the main focus of my breeding activities. Remember to push more veggie based foods, and go easy on the higher protein foods.

I started breeding platys, moved on to other cichlids, especially angels. Once in a while I dabble with the platys, and catch myself tossing an angel tank size feeding of blackworms & such in. I've lost several this way, I've recently put them in a more difficult to access tank to slow me down a bit at feeding time.
