Egg-spots. Its a breeding mechanism. An African cichlid keeper could explain it better than I can, I'm sure.

Is that the way they get the eggs fertilized in the female's mouth?

Yeah... the female thinks they are eggs and goes to collect them at which point the male fertilises the eggs she already has in her mouth.
