thats not nice :-(

I just wanted to make sure i had firsly pushed her to but the correct tank (she wanted the 20L one) and secondly about flaring and stuff.

bought a book called bettas :) a quick flick through it tells me its quite comprehensive and even goes into the amino acids involved in colouration i think

Also what else can i (she) keep with it?

Most Bettas will flare at themselves in mirror or reflections but not all. Depends alot on their temperament. The same goes for bubblenesting not all males will make them.

You may be able to keep some bottom dwellers in with him like Ottos or Corys. However they need to go into a mature tank so you would have to wait a while before introducing them. Some males will live quite happily with them but others may just want to kill anything you put in with them. Always have a back up plan in case things don't work out.

o yeah, bubble nests, what the deal with that lol

will they do it for no reason or only is they sence a female?

I have another much bigger tank which i can put things like ottos in if they don't get on

andrew

Just been on your website too, some lovely fish on there.

Thanks :good:

A male doesn't need a female around to make a nest. They just do what comes naturally and it can just be a good sign that they are happy.

Since i moved my guy into his new tank, yesterday. He's gottern to work on his nest, i take it he's settled in ok :)

He just makes it at the sides of the tank, floaing on the top. I once put half a cup in, and he used that, but it got that big that it filled it and was half across his bowl lol!

I think he loves making them, they get really big!

Instead of fishless cycling your new tank ( if that's what you're doing ) , take the filter and run it in your big tank for 4-6 weeks to cycle it that way. Or, if the filter is just a small internal cannister sort, take enough media from the filter in your main tank ,and fill the new filter with it for an instant cycle ( this is known as cloning ) .

Good stuff. Personally I will never fishless cycle as long as I have another tank to clone from. Too complicated.

Make sure she has plenty of bogwood in the tank for the Clown as they are wood eaters. :good:
