Hi i have two gts, asked for male and female pair, pretty sure they are one of each!, Quickly my female is goin an intense black colour but her colours are still beaming out!, The male is quick bright but female has gone really dark in the last week or so, had them around 4 weeks. Any ideas???

I have kept and breed many terrors. How big are they? the male could be showing picking on her or intimidating her. Terrors do have a bit of a breeding coloration they put on when interested in eachother though its hard to say weather its stress or possible breeding habits without observing the fish. Does she seem stressed? how is her Feeding?

Well he is constantly chasing her around the tank, but im not sure if it is in a agressive manner. When its feeding time they are both fine, eating and completly ignoring each other, He is around 7 cms while she is only 5-6cm not as big as him, he has grown since i got them but she doesnt seem to have. She is still a dark colour to this day,. Any ideas?

Do you have any other fish in the tank?

It can be a good idea to keep some robust target fish with a pair of cichlids. The idea is the male takes some of his aggression out on the other fish instead of the female.

As for what fish, maybe something like a group of giant danios, columbian or buenos aires tetra. I also have seen recommended that you keep more of the same species (females) to act as subordinates - thus the aggression is spread between all the females (although not too sure about that...)

Hopefully somebody else can comment! Try googling target fish for some ideas?!

Another option to consider is you house them in different tanks and only put them together for breeding.

I know there are one or two people here who keep a few gts together, hopefully they can offer you some more advice.

HTH :good:

ya believe it or not i have two electric yellows in there also who are never bothered by them, i frequantly see the bigger ey chasing the female gt, which is strange, i finally got my 3ft set up so they are moving over shortly if i can get rid of the haze in the tank!

Sounds like breeding behaviour imo, often there'll be aggression between the male and the female, stemming from the male (lip-locking, chasing, biting). Need to keep an eye on it all as the male could kill the female if she's not ready to breed.

Ya thats wat i thought, uhh today i noticed they were doing almost a strange like dance, and sittin right next to each other, than he would chase her for a bit than they would continue this weird behaviour,, they woukd both sit there under bellys on he dirftwood in my tank than do the dance, i really hope they breed. =)
