I bought a female black molly with the sole purpose of wanting her to have her babies and me raising them so I could have a tank full of mollies I raised from birth. she was heavily pregnant when I got her, so I knew it would be soon.

Well, today while I was at work she had the babies. I came home to find three VERY fat GloFish (genetically altered danios). They are only like an inch or so long, so I don't totally know how they were able to eat the fry, but they did. I was only able to find two in the tank. I moved them to my fry tank... but I think one of them had been nearly eaten while in the main tank because it keeps laying on it's side in the bottom of the fry tank. :/

The good part, the mamma seems to being doing just fine and is swimming around happily after being pretty glum since I got her.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these two make it.

The Molly mom probably ate quite a few too. Most fish can probably make a quick snack of fry, but I think the Molly probably had its fair share.

All fish will eat fry given a chance :(

Sorry for the loss of the fry, but the molly dose not need a male to get pregnant again, as they store sperm up to six months or so.

Try adding some hiding places for the fry. You may have a few more that you can't see if there are hiding places. I'm always seeing fry magically appear in my tank even when I know the mothers haven't dropped.

Yea, I'll add to the above, I was admiring my fish today, and saw a little red platy, must be about two weeks or so at least, nice suprise

Well, the babies were all gone for sure because today was water change day and I found none in the tank or in the water I took out.

I have 5 large plants in the tank as well as a little home made cave. So there was lots of room for them to hide. My guess though, is that she didn't have too many babies becaus she was super flat (the way all my previous girls where when they had the babies and I got them out before any were eaten) and then the three GloFish were fat... but the glow fish are about the size that molly fry are at 4-6 months or so old. So they aren't very big.

But I went over to Pet-Co today and they had some fry in the tanks so I got some of those (12 of them to be exact ;) ) for free. So I now have 14 brand new fry and one that is a month or so old (I also got him from PetCo)

I also got a white/silver female molly. She doesn't look very pregnant at all if she is.. and I didn't notice any males in the tank with her... so I guess we'll see if she has babies. if not, it's okay. :)

Yeah, the PetCo right next to my work always gives their molly fry away. I don't know why, but they do. I've gotten over 10 for free on two occasions already and it was different people each time. So I think it's their policy or whatever.

The thing I was most excited about was that the silver/white molly I got was regularlly $2.99 but with a P.A.L.S. card she was only $0.99! So yeah, it was a really good deal. I was excited. :)
