I want to grow some java moss even though I know that it would be a better idea to grow in a tank, I want to try and grow it in a jar. Basically I will put some water in a jar and put the java moss in there and put a tube light on top, I also have some gravel that I can throw in at the bottom of the jar. So I was wondering if this will workout or not? And when my tank is ready I will take a peace of it and start growing it in my tank as well.

you can just get a tupperware tub and leave it on the windowsil or a well lit place (not in direct sunlight, but there is no need to use a lamp either).

Change the water daily. No need for gravel either as it just creates more maintenance,
