I'm growing snails for my Dwarf Puffers. I just had 6 in a little plastic cup with a piece of zucchini. They were in there for a couple days and they died.

I'm going to get more this week.

How should I take care of them? Is a little plastic cup ok? I know to put in vegetables, but how often should I change the piece? Do I need to change the water?

If I do everything correctly, How long should it take for them to reproduce?

Thanks

I think you might need a bigger container than a plastic cup. Snails produce ALOT of wast, did you do water changes? Also, rather than feeding them zucchini, just feed them a flake ot two every 2 days. But remember to keep there water clean :)

You will need also warm or heated water, snails are sensitive (like most things) to water quality aswell. As betta-246 says they do produce a lot of waste. I do large weekly water changes in my snail tank, and boy when I use the vac the amount of waste that gets sucked up. A small heated tank + a filter would be advisable if you are planning on wanting to produce more.

Temperature requirement depends on the type of snails your are trying to breed. I keep mine unheated on a cold window sill. What kind of snails do you have?

You really need something bigger than a plastic up, even a 2 litre ice-cream tub can do but obviously the bigger the better. With an unfiltered setup, you will need to change min. 50% water every 2-3 days depending on how stocked it is. Chucking lots of spare plant trimmings like elodea in it will help with the water quality and give them places to lay eggs too.

Hi, I have Apple snails, I was assuming (wrong I know) that as they were for puffers so maybe they would be for warmer water conditions. Sorry I don't know alot about puffers. :look:

I had Ramshorn snails. I thought they liked coldwater. They don't the same conditions as puffers because they are going in only to be eaten.

I may just get new snails and let them live in the tank.

What snails would go well in a tank that is 80F? There is a little bit of aquarium salt to keep the tank healthy.

I don't know if the puffers would eat them before they have time to reproduce.

Thanks for the help
