Hi everyone,

I am getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus. I won't have my tank going for probably another 6 months or so as I will be moving house in the meantime, but I would like to start growing some plants now if possible.

Plan was to use a smallish tank, fill about 1-2 inches of water and light the tank about 8 hours a day. The top will be covered with clingfilm or something similar to keep the heat in (air holes as well). This will just be for growing potted plants, obviously stem plants would need a full tank of water to grow.

My main question is what temperature do they need to grow at?
Will leaving the tank unheated indoors (16-20 degrees C) be enough or will it be too cold for the plants to grow effectively?
What are peoples experiences with growing plants separately?

Thanks

welcome to the forum. It is possible to do plants in a unheated tank. Any pond plant (dwarf catail), water lettuce, Hornwort, anubias and many others. Not all plants will be suitable and the plants of your choosing will grow slower. But most should be fine also long as there enough light.

OK I see, so as long as it isn't freezing cold they may grow a bit slower? Thank you!
