ill be setting up a new planted tank shortly im thinking id like to leave it open top(idont need telling about fish jumping out ill be careful with stocking) and id like 1-2 big plants that will grow straight out of the water.

i saw a tank on here once where someone had such a plant best i can describe it is that its leaves looked alot like anubias to me but i could be wrong.

but failing that specific plant what plants r there that will grow out of the water available in the hobby?

how big is your tank?

its in my sig 234 litres but it measures 85long x 55high x 50 wide all in cm :good:

Echinodorus species would be ideal, the tank sounds like it'll be great!

do all Echinodorus species grow out of the water?

i might start a journal shortly we'll c :D

edit: just realised that Echinodorus is the amazon sword lol! tell me if im wrong though. not all of them will grow out of the water will they?

Some Echinodorus species grow out of the water like Echinodorus palaefolius var. latifolius you could try Bacopa caroliniana which is readily available.

Edit:

can anyone tell me anything about this plant Cyperus alternifolius

http://www.birstall.co.uk/products/wnr148.html

I was also interested in this plant, however I don't know anything about it.

with the height of my tank i think im looking for a plant that grows somewhere around the metre mark to truly get the effect im after

have i bitten off more than i can chew

Cyperus alternifolius sounds ideal but when i type it into google its never in water so i dunno if its aquatic or not!
