i have recently bought 4 discus and am new to keeping discus. they are still small around 2-3 inches and feeding well. they are getting water changes every other day and are being fed between 3 and 4 times daily on tetra prima and min, brineshrimp, bloodworm, tubifex worm and whiteworms. of the 4 the two largest which are red turqs are quite colourful but still have the faint bars running through them so im not too concerned with there progress. the smaller two which were sold as sunset somethings (sorry all new to me) are still rather dark in colour. the darkness is like a rough dark specles like ive seen young discus have from research. so when does this darkness start to fade and is there anything else i should be doing or feeding to help their progress?

if they are smaller then they will probably be lower down the hierachy within the group so it could be stress. alternatively they just could still be developing their colouration, where they any different from the place of purchase?

when i kept discus in the past whenever 1 went dark it wasnt a good sign but if they are eating and getting plenty of fresh water then thats fine just keep an eye on them for a while.

did you buy them all from the same place?

yes they were all bought from the same private breeder. they are definately no darker then when i got them and have improved a bit. guess ill just have to be more patient i suppose.

im mainly concerned about their diet. im feeding a varied diet but dont want to missing anything out.
