Hey i heard something about growing ur own plants for ur fish tanks. I was wondering if this is true and if so wut kinda plants. I think i was told they were floating plants.

Heres a floating plant that u can grow at home and put in ur tank and will not hurt any of ur plants. Most have u have already heard of the plant called parsley. You can buy it at the store for a low price and it works well for providing a thick layer of foilege over the water. The fish like hiding in it and it looks real cool when the light shines threw it.

You're correct. You can grow a lot of the common aquatic plants at home, such as hornwort, vallis, swords, java ferns, etc. Once they thrive in your tank they will start producing new plants which you can use in other tanks or give away.

I can't image Parsley being an aquarium plant...

lol me neither but its only 99 cents and it covers the top of the water about 2 inch deep and it looks great the fish can come up and swim in it and stuff just make sure u wash it good before u put it in. After 2 weeks u should take it out becuz it will start rotting. But for 99 cents u cant go wrong.

HOw would i start growing the java ferns, ect. Can u buy seeds?? Could u give me some more information about this?

buy one java fern and tie it to bogwood/rock with fishing line and wait for 3/6 months.

after this time the old leaves die leaving a small new plant at the tip that will fall off.

you can then tie the new plant to another piece of wood and on and on....

DONT PLANT JAVA FERN in the gravel, it grown from a horizontal stem that will rot if planted.

if your plant lasts 6 months you'll have it forever, they are really hard to kill..

good luck :D

Most stem plants will evetually rach the surface, cut the top few cm's off and plant. Few fail to grow.

For quickest results try the hornwort. Just float it in the tank and watch it grow. With decent lighting it should double in size in 2weeks :)

I bought a java fern awhile ago but i dont really know if it is one. Do u guys got any good links for plants so i can match it up??

The easiest way to grow your own aquarium plants is to buy small amounts of plants at a store, plant them in your tank and wait for them to grow. Most aquarium plants are basically weeds, and will grow very fast given the right conditions.
