I've read in many places that having a trio of cichlids is a bad idea,so I was just wondering what some good ideas are as for as groupings go. I was planning on getting some AngelFish as well as a few Apistogramma's in my 30 Gallon Tank. Thanks in advance!

Angel fish should not be kept in trios once two pair off they will kill the third

Most apistogrammas are hareem breeders so a 1m2f trio would work perfectly.

So, is it safe to get even numbers of angelfish together? Like 4 or 6?

Yes, but I think your tank is too small for 6. Unless you get juvies & lose 4 if you have 2 pair off.

Many cichlids pair off. These species you cannot have a trio, as the extra will most likely be killed, or bullied.

Yes angels will pair - most apistogramma are hareem breeders
