Hi peeps

Newly returned to fishkeeping, I have two 80 litre tanks and have had a lot of problems due to bad advice from my local shop. I came on here to look for advice and have already had my eyes opened very widely!

I will be posting sometime tomorrow for some serious advice, once I have done all my tests again. My other half has also been bitten by the fish bug, and we are planning to invest in two 6ft tanks for our new house. (After reading this forum YES I will be starting them on fishless cycle!! :) ).

I had tanks many years ago and mangaged to keep them running well and even bred some fish, despite my ignorance!

Hopefully my future experiences will be a lot easier than they have been so far.

:hi: to TFF. As I like to say, "Fishkeeping is a hobby for the ones who enjoy life!" I love fish and have had fish since I was a baby (I am only 15 going on 16), but have learned much and even teach older people than me. I just have to ask, What are you keeping in your tank now and what do you plan to get for the new tanks?

:hi: to TFF ! Wow - sounds like you have some awesome tanks in the pipeline.

Very exciting - keep us posted :)

Both are general community tanks. The plan for the new tanks is to have one as an asian tank, housing clown loaches, silver sharks and gouramies. The other one is intended as a general community tank, with an emphasis on rainbows. Once they are set up then my exsisting tanks will become, one general community tank and the other I would like to set up as a lake malawi tank, obviously with just the smaller peaceful members. It is likely to be christmas before they are all up and running though.

The list of what I have in the tanks currently is on the beginner help page. Due to ignorance plus some bad advice, I am having problems with water quality. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=129614
Any help/advise from anyone would be gratefully recieved.

Welcome aboard...you've found the best place for guidance. SH

In peterborough the store called "The water zoo" comes highly recommended, well worth checking out. Jason Scott who works there is a regular contributor to practical fishkeeping magazine. It will be worth googling their website :D

I do know the water zoo quite well. Trouble is I assumed everyone in there was as good as Jason......WRONG!

It is the one of only two shops that I will use, the other being Maidenhead Aquatics at Crowland.

Hiya The Pike. I am just north of you near Sleaford. I prefer Maidenhead to Water Zoo I guess but that's just me :) I also like the aquarium section in Downtown near Grantham. Welcome :)

Welcome to the Forums!

I'm from Peterborough and also use The Waterzoo and Crowland Maidenhead Aquatics as my main "real" stores, although I prefer to buy most goods on-line these days. I just get frustrated by incompetant staff, I'm probably too critical if I'm honest though.

Jason knows certainaly knows his stuff, especially regarding hardware and he has an excellent general fishkeeping knowledge. In Crowland there is Peter Hiscock who also an author of several planted aquarium books.

They all know squat about modern technique high-tech planted tanks though!
