Hi everybody,

As I am quite new to aquatics I try to get a lot of information of the Internet and found your forum.

I currently changed from a 35L beginner's tank to a 54L tank, as my female guppys are pregnant ;)
My start into aquatics was honestly a disaster as I trusted pet shop staff instead of going to a proper fish shop - though they were very friendly, they do not seem to have a clue about fish keeping and sell very weak and small fish.
I started with a huge fishbowl (yes, you read correctly) - not being told by the saff this would be torture for the poor coldwater fish. After I read that they can't see properly due to the glass, I bought a 35L tank. It was never mentioned that I should let it run for some weeks...
My fish kept dying and I was honestly upset, as i did my best. I finally changed to tropical fish, as I was told they are easier to keep and they look nicer imho.
The final straw was when I recently went to buy fish and found 5! dead ones in one tank - it was around noon. I asked if they had a disease and was told, that they are fine and checked every morning (so, imagine by now there had been dead fish taken out already) but they had too little oxygen in the tank for soo many fish  Trusting that they had at least no disease, I bought fish - the young girl was not able to differ between pregnant fish and not pregnant fish...

Anyhoo, by now I have a brilliant fish shop with excellent consultation. There fish are at least twice the size

I currently have:
3 female guppys (pregnant)
1 male guppy
2 female platys
2 male platys
2 black tetras (I know now that they should be more - I am considering to give them away)

I will get 8 cherry shrimps this week and am quite excited. I know that they might eat my baby guppies, but I have plenty of plants (java moss, roots, moss balls, etc. will be additionally put in this week) so they should be able to hide. I won't put them in a breeder trap, as this will just stress the babies and my tank will get overcrowded in the long run.

Greetings,

Lucky
