I am not sure if I am doing this right, but in case this works, hello! I have just signed up. I am super busy, but have recently become a fishaholic, and have heaps to learn. This looks like a great place to do it.

Now what. Do I click "Post New Topic"? Here goes....

Hi and welcome to the forum. Your green tank water is most likely diatoms which are pretty common in newer tanks. Try this link for help on green water.

:hi:

Hello Fish Leader, and thank you for the welcome!

I've been reading some of the info here.... So glad I found this place!

The water wasn't green until I put the meds in. It has a dye in it, but I didn't expect it to turn THAT green! It is really green, and now I am worried I put in too much. I keep re-reading the instructions on the label, 5 mls per 20 litres of water, my tank has 120 litres and I only put in 10 mls. But now the water is green.

:dunno:

If my fish die I will :-(

I hate all the guesswork with keeping fish, particularly with all the pet shops giving conflicting info, I am not sure which one to believe (I harass three of them regularly :D ).

Welcome to the forum Cajun Tuna, what med was it. Myxacin by any chance?

some meds (myxacin for example) contain dyes which will colour the water. nothing to worry about so long as you stick to the dosage on the label

edit: is that you in the avatar? quite the hottie i see!!

PMSL! Yes, I am simply irresistable! It's the pink hair and the flashing eye.... :fun:

Holy moly, is that your tank in the photo? That is amazing! I was all proud of my tanks, but I feel shame now  .

The stuff I put in is called Multi Cure. The guppies are getting white scales across the tops of them. It doesn't look like salt, after reading the disease list, velvet sounds most like what they seem to have.

I just read how to tell the boys from the girlies, I am off to check. Then I must sleep least I die, but this place is awesome so I will be back!

I wish we could get plants like in your picture here. We live in the bush, and the selection is extremely limited.

*sigh*

If the green is from medication, it will most likely disappear when you add carbon back to your filters after you finish medicating. Water changes will also remove it over time.
