am wanting to deck my tank out with a bunch of easy to grow plants. I dont have the time/patience to go into the co2 side of a planted tank so i am just wanting to put them in the tank and thats it. I am wanting a semi-planted tank.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with 'green line aquatics' http://www.aquaticplants.eu.com/index.html

I am thinking about getting one of the random pot luck groups but i was wondering what types i would get as i am wanting mainly background and maybe a few little spikey plants at the front. Although saying that, i might just buy specifi plants, but hardly any of them have pictures.. its all #codes :look: .

Cheers.

Greenline is good indeed :) but my experience with the pot-luck and large mix-bunch stuff is a bit of a mess :S They just seem to throw loads of stuff together and it takes forever to untangle the whole lot - back breaking work !

You'd be better off going for the individual plants. If you buy a few of the same plant they have some deals that make it cheaper.

Damn, saw this too late. I've just bought the £6.00 mix bag. I was told that i shouldnt expect plants with roots for that price, and i should just expect cuttings. I'm kinda worried that its all going to go bottoms up as i am used to just plonking in some bundles of stems and thats it. What did you get in yours?

Well you can do one of two things :)

1) phone them first thing tomorrow morning and ask if you can still change your order

2) it's really not the end of the world and for £6 you still get a good deal - as long as you don't mind doing a bit of work :) Expect it to come as one large bunch wrapped in wet newspaper and plastic. You'll just have to untangle bit by bit and cut plants to the size you want. They often provide long strings of plants - mostly too long for what we would want. It won't go bottoms up I'm sure.

Good luck and post a pic of your progress.

well ive just purchased the 18"/45cm Tropical Collection 4477, Min Number of 40 Plants, Price: £5.75 for my new tank along with two lots of java moss and im using the pro aqua plant fert bags, i have no clue what plants are what apart from knowing i got quite a few plants one being a really big tree and two 10" cambomba thingys which are my fav

i also set up a cheap pressurised co2 system which cost a total of £20, this being £8 for a disposable bottle of co2 and £12 for a regulator both from machine mart, oh and about 50p for airline tubing, then just ran tubing up into cannister filter, dont know what im doing really, but its all good fun and soon i will have me co2 test kit so i can see how much gas ive wasted this past week

That will be gear for MIG welding then ? :hey:
I would think twice before using that gas... Im sure its ok, but "food grade" should really be used.
Also, as most users have a flowrate of around 1 bubble per second, can you turn a MIG regulator down that low ? As far as I can tell from mine, its more or less ON or OFF !!! Mind you, I never use it - I went onto pub bottles for my welder !

Hi Luke

I'm afraid at only 12p a plant they will not be bunched, there is a good mixture of species, the swords, crypts and larger plants usually have roots and the others like elodea, cabomba, hygro do not have roots but are 20-30cm long stems. We have to pay extra for rooted plants to be sterilised to meet DEFRA import requirements and fast rooting stuff like hygro is much cheaper for the customer if I bring them in bare stemmed. I cannot picture the pot luck collection because the pot luck nature of species within could breach trade descriptions if it wasn't species as shown etc.
You should get your plants 24-72 hours after you receive the notice of intended despatch email from the site Mon/Tues so plants should be there Wed/Thur this week
Thanks

Not too bad, i'll just bunch them myself :D/

HI i bought one of their collections and the plants were separated into different species. But they had Snails in ,so it might be a good idea to treat them before placing them in your tank.

You don't really want to bunch them as such - those that are rooted need to be planted a couple of cm's apart from each other :)

Those that are meant to grow roots, but don't have any yet - should be floated for a few days or until they develop some roots first :)

yep, ive gone the mig welding route :D hmmm i thought co2 was co2, cant easily read bottle to check now as its strapped to the lamp with tape next to and above tank along with a small plastic bubble counter, i can turn the regulator down to about 2bpm reading on the bubble counter, but what i learned was the rate on the bubble counter is not the same as the rate going up into the cannister filter as the tube is going down about 12" into the tank and experiencing back pressure which halves the flow rate, so to get 45bpm up into the filter cannister i need 90bpm on me bubble counter and there is no leaks, i checked with soap for hours around the sealed joints as i couldnt fathom out where me pressure was going, i think its exactly the same as another poster is experiencing on here, i was quite suprised when i tested it, i held the co2 outlet tube about half inch under the water and the bubble rate matched the bubble counter, but as i lowered it the rate dropped off and by the time i was 10 inches under the water (this being the level it enters the bottom of the cannister filter) it was non existent, i have the tube entering the center of the base of the cannister filter and have run it up through the center of one bio ball at the bottom to keep it central with three bio balls above in random fashion, filter is just double floss, which i think i need to increase to three or four layers?, my bio balls are quite big, i can only fit four in cannister, but i do get a constant puffing of fine bubble mist, im hoping to decrease their size even more and get them circulated better with a little more fiddling, was thinking of adding a second small filter and teeing the co2 tube so their puffed to both ends of the tank, the other half thinks ive flipped my lid the time ive spent tinkering with this new tank set up and co2, im at it every night, im still awaiting delivery of my co2 tester, as other items i ordered were not in stock :look:

I think is the point is that you have to sort them yourself. I Actually ordered one of the unlabblled collections and was really pleased with what I recieved. It would have helped if I had know what I got but the variety was great. I think I spent about £12 for the collection and the amount of plants was great I found it much better than the labbled collection and didn't mind sorting them out.

I would highly reccomend it amongst the collection was bulbs, java fern, java moss and loads of others. It is also great because they never send semi-aquatic plants in such collections. You might in the pot luck lot though.
